Jody Clary- Championship Flight Winner
The Western Piedmont division of the EGOLF AMATEUR TOUR held their third event of the 2008 season on Saturday, March 29 at the Crowder’s Mountain Golf Club in Gastonia, NC. The course rambles around thru the valley and creates dramatic elevation changes from many tee areas. The greens were in great condition and the fairways, still dormant from winter, were in good shape for this time of year. The weather was the controlling factor again this week. It was cold and windy, not a pretty day for golf. All the players and tour directors are praying for a sunny, warm tournament day, SOON.
Jody Clary from Grover, NC shot a spectacular 71 to score the win in the Championship Flight. Mike Cochran of Gastonia shot a 76 for second, with Doug Newton of Forest City right behind with a 78 for third and Lee Dorn of Gastonia in fourth with a 79.
Daniel Thompson of Gastonia shot an 80 to take “A†Flight honors over Donald Cantrell of Shelby who shot 84. Wesley Ellis of Shelby captured third by one stroke over Steve Rogers of Gastonia who finished with an 88.
Chris Crowl of Kings Mountain scored the win in the “B†Flight in a play-off over Tim Burton of Clover, SC. Both players carded scores of 80. Curtis Bass of Rock Hill, SC, finished in third place with a score of 82.
Leum Chanthavong of Kings Mountain captured the “C†Flight with a score of 92. Abraham Moore of Clover, SC took the second place in a scorecard play-off over Tony Parker of Hickory, NC. Both players finished regulation with score of 97.
John Shipley of Marion, NC shot 86 to capture the “D†Flight honors. Danny Morris of Marion shot a 93 to finish second with Dominique Beam of Dallas, NC in third with a 98. John’s 86 was a spectacular round in the windy cold conditions.
