Smiling in the sunshine after a cold, wet, and windy round

Facing Nature's Fury at Glen Eagle

The third tournament of the season included a cold driving rain, which brought a dynamic to the competition that is not usually part of the game for the Salt Lake City tour.  The rain let up after a while, but the wind and cold challenged the soaked players throughout the entire round.  The spring storm created a true links experience at Glen Eagle.

Tournament Details

  • In the Championship flight, Joe Jack shot an 81 to secure three tournament wins in a row.  He and Collin Townsend, who finished second at 88, took the round casually as Mother Nature created the entertainment.

  • In the A flight, Rod Whitlock shot another 82 to grab his second win of the season, this time in the A flight.  Scott Wood was second at 84.  John Bryer was third at 89.  Raul Delatorre was fourth at 91.  Otto Blum was fifth at 93.  The A flight experienced all of the rainy, blowing, links-like conditions, as they were already on the course when the storm let loose.

  • In the B flight, Steve Jones improved upon his second place finish in the previous tournament taking the win with a 95 and also winning a skin for his birdie on the 3rd hole.   Ben Lambert won the second place prize with a 99.  Scott Burnham finished third at 101.  The entire front nine for the B Flight tee times corresponded with the heavy brunt of the squall.

  • In the C flight, Scott Lieber improved upon his second place finish in the previous tournament at Eaglewood by landing a skin for his birdie on 7 and the win with an 86.  Jason Tanner came in second at 89.  Neil Harris was third at 99.  Mike Collins was fourth at 100.  With the first tee time of the day, the C Flight braved the entire storm from the first gentle rain drops, through the side-ways blowing downpour, to the remaining cold wind.

  • In the D flight, Rich Olofson finished at 93 with one birdie taking the winner's spot back from Roger Keally.  Roger Keally finished a close second at 95.  Jim Murphy came in third at 101, winning skins for his birdies on 14 and 17.  Julia Bryer finished fourth at 107 with a winning skin on the par three 15th and a closest to the pin on the 13th hole.  The D flight had the last tee time of the day and the challenge of beginning the round against the strongest driving rain and cold wind.

  • Skins Winners:  Jim Murphy (two holes), Julia Bryer, Rich Olofson, Scott Lieber, Steve Jones

  • Closest to the Pin Winners:  Julia Bryer, Rod Whitlock, Scott Burnham, Scott Lieber
