Season Finale at South Mountain Golf Course

Visit our Facebook Site Here!!!!

During the last tournament of the season, twenty-five players battled windy conditions on the already challenging course. The competition was to not only decide the tournament winner for each flight, but also the season points leaders for both the A and the B flights.  The mood was of friendship and fun even though the last trophies, monies, and points were on the line.  The event was extended with the season ending BBQ and awards party.  There were prizes for all the players including 1st place trophies; $1,200 in gift certificates for golf merchandise, lessons, and TaylorMade Performance Lab fittings; a $225 cash pool for the money games; brand new Billy Casper books; and Golf Week Amateur Tour logo golf towels and hat clips.  The event was a great celebration to close the 2012 inaugural season.

Tournament Details:

In the Championship Flight:   Joe Jack earned his fifth win of the season, the most by any member this year.  His five victories added up to a season points win by the largest margin in all the flights.  Joe finished the tournament with a two-stroke lead at 85 and a closest to the pin win on hole number eight.  Jesse Smith was second at 87.  Troy Novak was third at 94.

In the A Flight:  Three players, including tour director John Bryer, started off the round with a chance to grab the season points win.  After 16 holes, the other two players in contention for the season points win, Collin Townsend and Raul Delatorre, were tied for the lead in the tournament.  On the seventeenth hole Raul pulled ahead by one stroke and held on to take the win for both the tournament and the season.  Finishing at 88 with a closest to the pin win on hole number 3, this was Raul’s third win of the season, including both majors.  Collin was one stroke back taking the second place prize with an 89, two birdies, a skin for his birdie on the 5th hole, and a closest to the pin win on the 11th hole.  Scott Wood was third at 93 with a birdie and a skin on the 1st hole.

In the B Flight:  All three players were within a 253 point spread starting the day, and therefore whoever won the tournament won the season as well.  Steve Jones was in the lead by three strokes at the turn, but Ben Lambert fought back and pulled ahead on the 14th hole.  Steve regained the lead on the next hole and held on to take his third victory of the season, with an 87, and the season points win.  Ben finished a close second at 89.  Marty Cole was third at 97 with a closest to the pin win on hole 16.

In the C Flight:  Jason Tanner won his third trophy of the season at 89, securing his season points win with the second largest margin in all the flights.  Kevin Kohler won the second place prize with a 92.  Gary Ingram was third at 95 with a birdie and a skin on the 12th hole.  Mike Collins finished fourth at 99, making him the only member to compete in all ten Salt Lake City events and a winner of one of the two participation awards for the 2012 season.

In the D Flight:  Rich Olofson captured his third victory of the season with a 101, and two skins for his birdies on the 3rd and 7th holes.  Roger Keally grabbed the 2nd place prize, finishing with a 103 for the tournament and a win as the season points leader for the D flight.  Lynette Gascoigne shot a 119 and earned one of the two participation awards for the 2012 season for being the only woman to join the Salt Lake City tour.
