After some very heavy rain on Thursday and Friday, the sun came out on Saturday for an interesting day of golf. We had a “new†lake on holes 15 and 16, which made #16 much tougher. The course played longer because of wetness, but some low scores were turned anyway on a day of lift, clean, and place golf.
Phillip Roberts took first in the Championship flight for the 5th time in 6 tournaments. Marcus King finished second. Marcus was a guest from the South Mississippi tour.
With both players shooting 77, Ben Childers beat Thomas McMurdy on a scorecard playoff to win first place in the ‘A’ flight for his second win in a row. Troy Weeks finished 3rd with a 79.
Mr. Jordan Jones shot a very impressive 75 to win the ‘B’ flight title, with second place going to new member Ronnie Fondren with a score of 82, and Charles Fondren took 3rd with an 87.
Skiddy Pickens, after a 3 tournament absence, won the ‘C’ flight title in a scorecard playoff with Robert Canten. Both players carded 84’s. Max Dove, Greg Cryder, and Fred Bryant finished in a tie for third.
Chris Melvin shot a 94 to win the ‘D’ flight. Gary Tedford and Roger Howard both shot 95, with Gary wining on the scorecard to take the second place prize.
Closest to the pin on #17 was won by Jordan Jones with a distance of 18â€!!
The longest drive was won by Fred Bryant.

Knowing the Rules: In the tournament at River Birch, we had a player hit a ball into the lake. The lake was 20 or 30 feet beyond its normal banks in most places. The players ball was in this overflow area. What is it, casual water or hazard?
Answer: USGA Decision 25/2 - Overflow from Water Hazard
Q. If a pond (water hazard) has overflowed, is the overflow casual water?
A. Yes. Any overflow of water from a water hazard which is outside the margin of the hazard is casual water.
