Olive Branch, MS - The Longhorn Steakhouse Classic went very well with all the rain that fell on the course Friday afternoon! And with Longhorn Steakhouse providing prime-rib and broiled chicken breasts................mmmmmmhhhhhhhh delicious!! The tour and its players would like to thanks Tim and his crew from Longhorn for their great service and excellent food!
As for the course, on Friday it rained nearly two inches on an already wet Cherokee Valley G.C., but the course was in great shape for the tournament on Saturday. I would like to thank Adam Payne and his entire staff at Cherokee Valley for helping us pull off our first tournament of the season under less than ideal conditions.
Champ Flight - Defending flight champion Ed McDugle, shot a 2-under 70 to win the first tourney of he season. Chris Schlette took home second, and tour vet Phillip Roberts grabbed third.
A’ Flight - The Nashville Golfweek tours Steve Reigle shot a 74 to edge out Todd Bradford’s 75 to win A’ Flight. Tour veteran Thomas McMurdy took home third with a 77.
B’ Flight - New member Frank Cupples shot a very impressive 75 to win B flight! Welcome to A flight Frank! Mississippi Golfweek member Spencer Gatlin to second with a 78, and new member Jim Cande grabbed third with an 80.
C’ Flight - Defending flight champ Shane Springer had to go to a scorecard playoff to beat out Tom Horton for first place. Both players carded 85. Third place went to Mississippi Golfweek tour director Steve Packard with an 89. Thanks for coming up to play Steve.
D’ Flight – After both players carded 89’s, Andy Darrow and Ellis Houser went to sudden death playoff on the course to settle their differences. Andy won on the second playoff hole with a par. This was Andy’s first win on tour in two seasons of competing!! Congratulations Andy! And a good try to you Ellis. John Conlee snuck out with third place.
