Troy Boswell and John Fryman- Championship Flight Winners
This past Sunday, May 18th, the Columbus Division of the eGolf Amateur Tour played its third event of the young season at Bent Tree Golf Club in Sunbury, Ohio. The weather was challenging as winds were gusting all day. The course played a little longer than normal due to the recent rain on Saturday and Sunday morning. However, the golfers were in great spirits and were ready to take on one of the more difficult courses on the schedule.
Before the tournament even started, golfers were already talking about challenging John Fryman for first place in today’s tournament. Fryman did not back down from the challenge and captured his third straight first place finish by firing a 74, two over par. Troy Boswell, playing in his second event of the year, finished second with a 79; a very impressive score on a tough day like today. Boswell played in the Cooks Creek event and finished runner-up to John Fryman. Rounding out the top three for the Championship flight was Jeff Maier who also put together a steady round to shoot 79, a scorecard tiebreaker determined the second and third place finishers.
Only two strokes separated the top three placers in the “A†flight. Coming through with his first win of the season was Pete Yakimovich, who fired an 83 on the day. This was the second event of the season for Yakimovich who missed Royal American. A tiebreaker was needed to determine second and third place. Mel Rutter and Todd Coil both put together rounds of 85 to challenge Yakimovich for the trophy. Coming out on top of the tiebreaker was Mel Rutter. Todd Coil, who had just moved up to “A†flight from back-to-back wins in the “B†flight, took third place.
With Todd Coil moving up to “A†flight, the “B†Flight was up for grabs and Angel Padilla was there to reach out and grab his first tournament win of the year. Angel, who didn’t think he played very well, turned in an 84 on the scorecard. Dennis Henderson came in second with an 88 followed by James Whitman who carded a 91. Angel also collected on two skins with birdies on holes 4 and 8.
After two straight second place finishes, Cham Kahari finally breaks through with his first win of the season. Cham came into the clubhouse with an even 90 on the scorecard. Coming in right behind Cham was Jeff Spustack and his round of 91. Spustack also won the closest to the pin for the “C†and “D†flight. Howard Povlofsky rounded out the top three with a score of 94.
Homer Logan and Keith Weaver finish one-two for the second straight tournament. Logan came into the tournament riding a high after his impressive win at Royal American and left Bent Tree with two wins in a row after shooting a 90. Weaver finishes second to Logan for the second straight tournament by firing a 92. Also for the second straight tournament there was a scorecard tiebreaker to determine second and third place. Weaver also won two skins with birdies on 6 and 14. John Barnes and his score of 92 took third place.
