The Columbus, Ohio division of the eGolf Amateur Tour played its second event of the young season this past Sunday (May 4th) at Royal American Golf Course in Galena, Ohio. The day was a much better day than the cold, wet day at Cooks Creek, the season opener. The sun was shinning, the sky was clear and the course was allowing for some good scores. For the second straight tournament 46 golfers came out to play, compete and battle for points and bragging rights.
John Fryman came into the event with a target on his back having won the first tournament at Cooks Creek. With all the pressure of being the guy to beat, Fryman proved once again that he is a steady and consistent player by winning the Championship flight with a two under par 70. Pat Clougherty, who shot a 76, finished second with scorecard tiebreaker over Todd Barnes and Anthony Burbridge.
The “A†flight was a battle for the top spot all day long with the top three players separated by only two strokes. Craig Stewart was able to hold off the competition and broke through with his first victory of 2008 season by shooting a very impressive 77. Jared Minor finished second with an equally impressive 78. Peter Koumas, winner at Cooks Creek, took third place with a 79.
Back to back wins was the story in “B†flight as well with Todd Coil taking the top spot again. Todd, who took the top spot at Cooks Creek, fired an 82 to win the “B†flight by three strokes over Jayson Kinstler and his steady 85. James Whittman comes in with an 89 to round out the top three spots.
Egbert Powell put together a very nice, steady round of 85 to capture the top spot, and his first victory of 2008, in the “C†flight. Cham Kahari, who finished second for the second straight tournament, finished the day with an 89 while Raymond Chamberglain rounded out the top three with a 93.
Homer Logan and his blazing score of 83 captured the “D†flight in impressive style. When asked about his score, all he did was smile and say “Even a blind squirrel will find an acorn some days.†Keith Weaver and Ray Autenrieb battled all day long and both players fired a 94. Weaver finished second by scoring one stroke better on #18, the #1 handicap on the course.
The next stop for these golfers will be Bent Tree Golf Club in Sunbury, Ohio on May 18th with a 12:30 start time. We encourage any and every golfer to come and join us for the third event of the 2008 season. Spots are available.
