The Columbus Golfweek Tour held its fourth event of the year today at Golf Club of Dublin. Known for its huge greens and Scottish links layout, Golf Club of Dublin is a great venue to test your game. 125 Columbus members did just that, lighting up the course on a great day for golf.
Champ flight saw one of its best win for the second time in a row. Rich Campbell backing up his 69 at Darby Creek with a 76 at GC of Dublin would put him right in the middle of a scorecard playoff. His par on the hardest hole gave him the win over first year tour member Michael Snyder. Jeff Maier just one shot back with a 77 takes third place.
A flight had a second year tour member get his first win. Jeff Zipay lit it up with four birdies on his way to a one over par round of 73. That score would be good enough for a three stroke victory over another new member Ed Niskala. Ed is dialing his game in right now and continues to be in the hunt at each tournament. Chase Hardwick rounds out the top three with a 77.
Each week we like to have our story of the day. That story was the B flight winner. Brad Herpolsheimer put together a great round of 78 earning him his second consecutive win on tour and a nice cushion in the overall point standings. Brad is white hot going into the second major of the year and looks to go for the three-peat. Just one stroke back Tobin Shoup shot a career Golfweek low of 79. Tobin is also playing great right now and ready to make a charge for the top spot in B flight. Ron Charlton finished third along with a $223 super skin.
C flight had one of its tour veterans put on a show. Jim Mercer shot an incredible 77 to give him a six stroke victory. Jim is playing better than ever winning the Icebreaker in C flight earlier in the year and now adding another Golfweek win to his resume gives him a large lead in the overall standings. First year members Scott Wemer and Jim Papamihail both turned in their cards with 83’s. Off to the scorecard we go to determine the winner. It would only take one scorecard playoff hole to crown the winner, and that was Scott Wemer.
D flight is growing each and every week and becoming one of the most competitive flights we have. In just his second tournament, Jay Bonecutter earned himself a one stroke victory shooting 87. An all around consistent golfer, Jay will make his presence known all year on tour. Lee Dearth and Tim Jenkins just one stroke back with matching 88’s were ready to check out the scorecard to determine the winner. It would take two holes but Lee earned second place with his scorecard playoff victory.
