The Columbus Golfweek Amateur Tours tenth stop of the year was today at Clover Valley Golf Club. Known for its great greens and degree of difficulty it didn’t disappoint today. Fifty five golfers showed up to test their game and gain some crucial points.
The Rich Campbell show is back on the air here in Columbus. Rich had another awesome round today shooting an even par 72. This is his second best score of the year, and shows why he has won 7 of 9 tournaments that he has played. Kevin Dick shot 82 and made the long trip up from Cincinnati worth it, taking home second place. Kyle Crossfield just one stroke behind finishes with a third place finish, adding to his points and securing his spot in second place for the season points total.
A flight had another great turnout today, including guest Dave Knisely. Dave had one of his best scores to date shooting a two over 74. Along with his first place win he also received some skin money for his four birdies. We hope to see Dave join next year and give our A flight players a run for their money. Coming in second place three strokes behind with a 77 was Jared Minor. Jared’s game is finally starting to turn around, as he prepares for the national championship in Hilton Head. Eric Croker and Alonzo Shavers both carded great rounds of 78. All it took was one look at the card to see that Eric’s awesome birdie on the courses toughest hole would give him third place and add to his season long points lead.
B flight had a familiar face at the top today. Rex Reeder is getting hot at the right time, and starting to cash in on his good play. After seeing Rex on the putting green for thirty minutes before his round, it wasn’t hard to believe that he would shoot so well (81). If you can conquer Clover’s greens you will do well. Coming in second was another player who is always in the hunt. Josh Davis shot an excellent round of 83. Josh has been so close to his third victory of the year recently ,he’s bound to get it soon. Third place goes to Devon Ratliff, with another solid showing shooting 86.
C flight had a new player in the winner’s circle. That player is Dave Ehret, another one of our loyal members that makes the drive from Canton every tournament. His score of 86 gave him the victory and some earnings to help with that long haul. This win also propelled him to the lead of C flight for the season. New member this year Jim Mercer won a scorecard playoff with last week’s winner Gary Andrews, both shooting 88. It is way too close to call in the C flight this year, there are a number of players who can still take home overall champion title.
D flight had a strong showing today at Clover Valley. Back on top is tour veteran Phil Petitti. Phil’s 91 gives him a one stroke victory over thirteen year old Christopher Dearth. This was Christopher’s first tournament, and he played very well. It’s not easy to play at this level at such a young age. Great job! John Barnes just one stroke behind places third.
I want to thank everyone for playing today. With only four tournaments left our season is coming to an end. Our last four courses are absolutely awesome. Starting with Jefferson CC on September, 3rd. This tournament will fill up fast so try and reserve your spot as soon as you can. Go to amateurgolftour.net to sign up.
