John Fryman- Championship Flight Winner
The COLUMBUS DIVISION of THE EGOLF AMATEUR TOUR held their opening event of the 2008 season on Saturday, April 19 at the Cook’s Creek Golf Club in Ashville, Ohio. The Cook’s Creek course is difficult to play in ideal conditions, but the cool and rainy conditions with a light wind made this a bear of a course to play. The course played much longer than the scorecard yardage indicated. The scores posted today are a tribute to the quality of players and the competitive environment on the Columbus Amateur Golf Tour. The course was in excellent condition and the course staff were excellent hosts for this event. The tournament played in just under five hours and the pace of play was very good. We had forty six players for our first event and are expecting more for our next event at Royal American Links.
John Fryman from Lewis Center, OH took the Championship Flight with a score of 74. Troy Boswell from Reynoldsburg, OH finished second with an 80 while Eugene White from West Jefferson, OH finished third with an 81. John used four birdies and a laser like driver to capture his first win of 2008.
Peter Koumas of Dublin, OH captured first place in the “A†Flight with a very impressive 78. John Winters of Dayton, OH was finished second with a 79. The 2007 “A†Flight champion, Jared Minor shot an 82 to claim third place.
Todd Coil of Dublin, OH used ten one putts and a great skill to get up and down around the greens to capture the “B†title with an impressive 78. Angel Padilla of Columbus, OH fired an 81 for second place while Andy Yoder from West Salem, OH finished in third with an 85.
Billy Chang of New Albany, OH fired a 90 to capture the “C†flight championship. Raymond Chamberglain of New Albany, OH defeated Cham Kahari of Columbus, OH with a scorecard playoff to capture the “C†flight second place.
John Barnes from Mount Sterling, OH fired a 91 to hold off Ray Autenrieb from Cincinnati, OH who shot a 92. Finishing in third place was Homer Logan from Hilliard, OH with a 95.
The next tour stop for the Columbus Tour event will be at Royal American Links in Galena, OH on Sunday, May 4. We would like to encourage everyone to come out, join the tour, and enjoy playing competitive tournament golf. Anyone can play one event as a guest, just to check out the tour and see how much fun it is to play competitive golf in an organized, professionally run tournament.
