Todd Barnes- "A" Flight Winner
The Columbus Egolf Amateur Tour held its thirteenth event today at Clover Valley Golf Club in Johnstown, Ohio. Although it was chilly for the early tee times, it soon warmed up and turned out to be a beautiful sunny fall day.
The Champ flight had two players compete today, Ryan Troup and Bill Esch. They both went at it all day, but it was Ryan’s round of 78 that won him the trophy.
The A flight saw five players try to gain some much needed points going into the last tournament. Todd Barnes and Jared Minor went at it all day, matching shot for shot. On the par 3 seventeenth, (A flight’s closest to the pin) Jared hit his tee shot to twelve feet. With the pressure on, Todd steps up and almost knocks it in the hole. Both birdie, and go to the 18th hole tied. Todd made his par on 18, which left Jared with a six footer to go into a playoff. Jared’s putt burns the right edge, and Todd’s round of 77 gives him the victory. Eric Croker rounds out the top three.
The B flight had 4 players today, and it was the return of Dennis Henderson. Dennis played solid, and recorded a round of 87 to win by five strokes over his nearest competitor, Bruce Berdine. This win puts Dennis within reach of the B flight leader (Jacob Bridges) for the season long points race.
The C flight was the biggest flight of the day today. Knowing how important this tournament was for the points race, the heat was on. Walking off the 18th green there were three players tied for the lead. Bill Sluka, Buddy Mcbride, and Corey Skinner all shot 87 to go into a three way playoff. Off to the first hole they went. Bill stripes one down the middle of the fairway, with Buddy following suit. With Corey’s tee shot sitting in the right rough, Bill and Buddy were sitting pretty. Not so fast. Corey’s approach misses the green, but a great up and down leaves him with a par and the victory. The C flight has been one of the most competitive of the year, and today was no different.
The D flight saw the usual suspects, battling it out. Wayne “ace†Dawson and William Gilstrap . Wayne ties his season best score with a 94 to take home the victory.
Our next tournament is the Ohio Championship at Apple Valley in Howard, Ohio. The points race is very tight in many flights, and it will all come down to this tournament. Register now, and I look forward to seeing everybody there.
