2-hour Rain Delay Doesn’t Stop These Golfers!

A 12:30 start time turned into a 2:30 shotgun start after a 2-hour ran delay today. Rain came hard then soft but was consistent for most of the morning before clearing off and giving the Columbus golfers a chance to get out on the course and play. The head pro at Darby Creek was very willing to work with us and work through the rain to make sure we were ready to go once the storm passed. After it passed the day became beautiful, sunny and warm.
With the rain softening up the greens, players were able to attack the pins. And attack they did. Newcomer this year, Zake Materson took advantage of steady play and good ball striking to shoot even par on the day and take home the top spot in the Championship Flight. Right behind him was John Fryman with a 2 over par 74 on the day.
The A flight was won by Eric Croker but was dominated, somewhat, by Joshua Stevens. Eric took home the first place trophy and points with his great round of 78 on the day, but the up and down play of Stevens was the highlight of the day. Stevens turned in a 79 on the day. A 79 that included 4 birdies and one eagle! Just shows that golf is a game of consistency.
The B flight also had an interesting story today. Dennis Henderson talked a player into playing in the tournament during the rain delay. No that’s not the interesting part. The interesting part is that Dennis finished first (86) and the guy talked into playing (Brad Herpolsheimer) finished second (87)! Was this just a coincidence?
DOMINATED! That is the word that can be used to describe the C flight today. Gary Andrews absolutely ran away with the C flight today. As the rest of the C flight was battling back and forth and finishing within 2 strokes of each other, Andrews was just walking away with the tournament. Andrews comes in with a round of 80 on the day. Second place was 11 shots behind Andrews. Good round Gary!
The D flight saw the same players fall in the same spots. Zach Davis finishes first followed by Steven Root in second and William Gilstrap rounding out the top three. Ok Steven and William it’s time for one of you two to knock Zach off that first place run he has been on!
The next tournament for the Columbus golfer will be July 25th at The Golf Club of Dublin. Sign up and play today!
