Tim Ford and John Fryman- CHampionship Flight Winners
The second half of the season got started today with a round at Glenross Golf Club in Powell, Ohio. The morning was filled with rain and the golfers didn’t know if they were going to be able to play; but the sun poked through the clouds and the day turned out to be beautiful. The course was in great shape as the 42 golfers got ready to play.
In the Championship flight John Fryman has been the man to beat all season long; having won all five tournaments he has played in. Tim Ford was up to that challenge today. Ford, in just his second event, took down Fryman with an even par round of 70 today. When asked how it felt to finally lose, all Fryman said was, “I will not be upset with a 71.†Truer words were never spoken. Congrats to Tim Ford on his first win of the season.
The A Flight saw the return of Tyson Rahrig after a long layoff. Tyson put together a great round today by firing a four over par 74 to capture first place. The only other player to break 80 in the A flight was Ryan Richards, who shot a 78. Richards made it very clear that his string of second place finishes is getting to him. “That’s three seconds in a row!†is all he could say after seeing the scores. Keep it up Ryan, you’re due.
The B Flight again only had three players competing for that first place trophy. Angel Padilla makes it two in a row by firing an 83 today. When the golfers came in all Matthew Golden could say was, “Angel got me by two.†Golden finished the day with an 85, followed by Dennis Henderson and his round of 90.
The C Flight has been owned by Billy Chang the last few tournaments. That didn’t change today. Billy fired a blazing round of 76 to runaway with the C flight. This is the third win in a row for Billy who credits his streak to simply, “getting off the tee.†Egbert Powell and Howard Pavlofsky finished second and third behind Billy with rounds of 83. Powell took second through a scorecard tiebreaker.
The D Flight saw a first time winner take home the first place trophy. Robert “The Tank†Burbridge put together a terrific round of 82 to beat his nephew, Homer Logan, by five strokes. The Tank was unstoppable today in every aspect of the game. Driving the ball well, hitting greens and draining putts left and right. Simply put, The Tank ran the D flight over today. Homer Logan continues his steady play coming in second with a round of 87. First time player Matt Bowman put together a solid round of 88 to take home third place.
Congratulations to all the winners today and I hope to see all of you at Darby Creek on July 27th for another fun filled tournament.
