Dennis Henderson- "B" Flight Winner
The Columbus, Ohio division of the eGolf Amateur Tour held their fourth tournament of the season on Saturday, May 31st at Cumberland Trail in Pataskala, Ohio. The temperature for the tournament was beautiful; the wind was not. With wind gusts up to 25 miles per hour, 39 golfers went out and attacked a rather difficult course.
The Championship flight was up for grabs with the absence of John Fryman, who has won the first three tournaments of the season. Troy Boswell wasted no time capturing his first tournament victory of the season. Troy, who has a couple second place finishes to his credit, battled all day long and stepped off the course with an impressive score of 76, 4 over par. Todd Barnes worked hard every hole to catch Troy but was unable in his efforts. Todd finished second with a score of 79. Tim Pickering rounded out the top three with an 81.
The “A†flight was again a battle all round long. Two strokes separated first from third place today. Jared Minor came out on top of the battle with an 81 and his first victory of the season. Following Jared and coming in second was John Winters and his score of 82. Craig Stewart posted a score of 83, which rounded out the top three for the “A†flight.
The smallest group of the day was the “B†flight, which had only four players. Dennis Henderson did not let that opportunity stop him from grabbing his first tournament victory of the season. Dennis came into the clubhouse with a hard earned score of 89. Finishing second in the “B†flight was Jim Whitman and his round of 95.
Aaron Cox came into today’s round having missed the last two events. However, he was on his game and posted a score of 84 and took home the first place trophy. Aaron hopes to bring this game to Eagle Sticks next week and compete for the first place trophy there. Finishing second was Keith Powell who came in with an 88. Buddy McBride joined the top three by firing a 93 on the day.
The “D†flight was a tight battle all day long. So tight that it took an extra hole to decide the winner. Keith Weaver, John Barnes and Robert Burbridge all finished the day with impressive scores of 89. A small crowd of about 10 golfers came out to watch Weaver, Barnes and Burbridge play their playoff. After the first playoff hole Keith Weaver was able to pull out the victory for his first win of the season. John Barnes came in second followed by Burbridge who completed the top three.
The next stop for these golfers is the US Open that will be played at Eagle Sticks in Zanesville on June 7th and 8th. There are plenty of spots open for any golfer who would like to play in the first two-day tournament of the season.
