Ohio Divisions End 2007 Season at Darby Creek
The Cincinnati & Columbus divisions of THE AMATEUR GOLF TOUR held a combo event at Darby Creek to finish the 2007 season. The course played as tough as Augusta National. Darby Creek is renowned for its tough course and its friendly staff and it was no different on tournament day. The course was in fantastic shape with the greens rolling very fast and the fairways narrow. The course staff was very friendly and made the tournament very special to all the players. The weather was perfect for golf with the sun shining and temperatures warm.
John Fryman of Columbus, OH posted a strong 77 to take the first place honors in Championship Flight. John had two birdies propelling him to the win. In the “A†Flight, Steve Lawrence of Columbus, OH and Jared Minor of Gahanna, OH shot 79’s to tie for first place. Steve defeated Jared on the first hole of a playoff. Michael Lackey of Cincinnati, OH and David Pasqualone of Delaware, OH fired 87’s to tie for the first place in “B†flight. Michael won the playoff on the second hole. The day also marked the end of the 2007 season which meant trophies were given out for the season point’s race. In the Columbus Division, Jeffrey Maier held off a charging Tim Pickering to claim the Championship Flight Title. “A†Flight was won by Jared Minor. Jared was in a tight battle all year with second place finisher, Craig Stewart. Matthew Bunce drove all night from Maryland to make sure he won the “B†flight title. It was a very close race with Matthew winning by one point over Jim Whittman. In the “C†Flight, Howard Pavlofsky stayed steady all year and held off Craig Miller to claim the “C†flight Championship. Keith Weaver started the year in first place and finished the year there as well. Keith and Gary Poling battled all the way to the last tournament.
The Cincinnati Division also gave out season trophies following the tournament. The “A†flight season title went to Joe Mergler. Joe held off Henry Gross who had to miss the Darby Creek tournament. “B†Flight was won by Michael Lackey. Michael used his win at Darby Creek to hold off Michael Lockhart. The “C’ flight championship was won by Egbert Powell. Egbert played steady all year to secure the win. Ray Autenrieb played a superb game all year to lock up the “D†flight championship. This was the first year for the Amateur Golf Tour in the Ohio regions but the season had lots of drama and the camaraderie was the best on tour. Hope to see everyone in 2008!
