Billy Chang and Aaron Cox- "C" Flight Winners
The sixth tournament of the Columbus, Ohio golf season was held this past Sunday at the Chapel Hill Golf Club in Mt. Vernon, Ohio. The dense fog lifted just in time for the golfers to get the round started on time. A total of 33 golfers took on the course and each other to build their season long point total.
The Championship flight was nip and tuck all day long with only three strokes separating first place from third place. Bryan Jackson made his first tournament a memorable one by firing a 74 on the day and taking home first place. Zake Materson also left the tournament, his first of the season, feeling real good after a round of 75, good enough for second place. Tim Pickering rounds out the top three with an impressive 77 on the day.
The A Flight saw Pete Koumas fire a lights out 78 to capture first place. This is Pete’s second win of the season. A scorecard tie breaker determined second and third place. Ryan Richards and Steve Lawrence both fired 83’s and left the decision up to the scorecard. Ryan Richards came out on top and took home second place.
Eric Croker came into the tournament today striving to win the first place trophy for his wife. When asked why all he said was, “She needs another one to put more flowers in.†However, Tom McCormack had other ideas for Eric. Tom put together a very impressive round and carded an 80 to take home the first place trophy for the B flight. What happened to Eric? He shot an 81 and finished second.
The C Flight was won by a determined Billy Chang. After taking a tournament off, Billy came into Chapel Hill ready to reclaim his spot atop the C flight. After carding an 83, he did just that. Aaron Cox came in second with a round of 87 followed by Keith Powell and his round of 88.
After six tournaments played this season, the Keith Weaver and Homer Logan friendly rival is in full swing. Coming into the tournament today each player had won two tournaments and were looking for win number three. The two golfers were dead locked after 17 holes and went to the 18th tee ready to win it all. With the pressure mounting both golfers wished each other good luck and off they went. By the end of the hole Weaver was standing atop the D flight in first place, his third win in a row. Weaver fired a personal best 87 to capture first place followed by Logan’s 90 to take home second place. After the round was over Logan made it clear that he was going to be ready for the next tournament.
The next tournament for the Columbus golfers is going to be July 5th at Clover Valley Golf Club in Johnstown, Ohio. For more information please visit www.amateurgolftour.net.
