Rain Shortens Player’s Club Tournament

The rains came and they came fast and hard. So much so that the tournament at The Player’s Club @ Foxfire was forced from 18 to 9 holes of tournament play. Only 18 golfers were brave enough to get out and play between the storm fronts that rolled through. But in the end, the course played fine and the golfers were on the attack.
In the Championship flight two golfers took to the course and were ready to do battle. Raymond Plewa and Ryan Troup headed to the first tee and with the first swings of their drivers they knew it was going to be a battle. At the end of the day Ray was able to take home the first place trophy. Ray also won closest to the pin for the day. Ryan didn’t go home empty handed as he won the only skin for the day. Congrats to both golfers.
The A flight was also a two person race between Brad Herpolsheimer and Jared “I’m on fire†Minor. After a rough first hole Jared was able to pull it together and finish the day with a solid 42 to take home another first place trophy. This is Jared’s fourth win of the season. Congratulations Jared and keep building those points for the season long trophy.
The B flight saw five players heading onto the course to play for that first place trophy and points. Even in the wet conditions, Bill Sluka was able to fire a 3 over par 39 to take home his first trophy of the season. Bill was a big winner today. Not only did we win his flight, he also won the closest to the pin and had the only skin for his flight. Finishing second was Buddy McBride with a 41 on the day.
The C flight had the biggest flight today. A total of seven players went out in the rain and played. Gary Andrews had a great round of golf. Scrambling par’s, birdie and eagle putts that barely missed the cup and a chip in to save par all helped Gary to a round of 39 on the day. Coming in second was Egbert Powell with a 44. This win tightens the race for first place between Egbert and Gary for the season long points total. It all comes down to the Ohio Championship. Gary also won the only skin for the C&D flight today. Zavier Neeley won the closest to the pin. Congrats to everyone.
The D flight consisted of two players today, William Gilstrap and Steven Root. At the end of the day Steven was able to shake off 3 penalty strokes and come in with a 44 on the day. This is Steven’s first win of the season.
Just a side note for all the players who played today. I was able to get us a discount on the round today. So with the extra money from today’s round I will be buying everyone a hot dog and drink at Tartan East on one of the days.
Please remember that Tartan East is a two day event. We will have a skins and pins pot for both days. Entry fee for Tartan East is $160 ($180 with skins and pins for both days). We will also be handing out season long trophies on that Sunday after the round so please stick around if you win your flight. We will also be holding some raffles. You do not need to buy into these raffles just show up and your name is already in the drawing. Look forward to seeing everyone at Tartan East.
