Players At Tartan East GC!
East Golf Club in New Albany, Ohio played host to the Ohio Championship this weekend. Saturday was marked by cold, windy, soggy conditions and some rather high scores. Sunday was a different story. The sun came out, the course wasn’t as soggy and the scores were better.
The Championship flight saw three golfers battle it out to take home top honors. John Fryman, Tim Pickering and Bill Esch all attacked East Golf Club with their sights on the first place trophy. After day one, John Fryman was able to take a five shot lead over his competitors. After day two that five shot lead turned into a 10 shot victory. With the win, John secured second place in the season long points total. Final scores for the Championship flight were Fryman 156, Pickering 166 and Esch 167. John Fryman also won four skins on the weekend. Bill Esch also won four skins and the closest to the pin. Tim Pickering wasn’t left out as he walked away with a skin as well. Congratulations to Tim Ford for winning the season long points total.
The A flight saw a very competitive weekend of golf. Eric Croker, Simon Kish, Jared Minor and Erin Packard all set out to do battle. After day one Simon held a one shot lead over Eric and a two shot lead over Jared. Day two saw all the golfers go head to head. Even though Jared had the low round of the day in the A flight, he fell one stroke short of Simon Kish. Simon shot 174 for the two day total to take home the top spot. Jared finishes second with 175, Croker third with 178 and Erin finishes fourth with 193.Both Jared and Simon also won one skin apiece over the weekend. Jared “3-time 3-time 3-time Champion†Minor secured the season long points total for the A flight for the third consecutive year. Congratulations Jared on yet another championship.
The B flight also saw some competitive golf by the four golfers that were in this flight. Melvin Harrington, Buddy McBride, Bill Sluka and John Ward all were ready to play a weekend of golf. After day one John Ward held a five shot lead. However, due to personal reasons John was unable to compete in day two. With this new information, the door was wide open for the remaining golfers. When it was all said and done, Bill Sluka was able to hold off hard charging Buddy McBride to secure a one stroke lead. Buddy and Bill also won one skin each while John Ward was able to secure a skin and the closest to the pin. Scoring for the B flight was Bill Sluka 178, Buddy McBride 179, Melvin Harrington 183 and John Ward 83 for one day. Buddy McBride was also able to take home the season long points total trophy. Congratulations to everyone in the B flight.
The C flight also had four golfers competing for top honors. Gary Andrews, Zavier Neeley, Howard Pavlofsky and Keith Weaver all were on a mission to win the season ending Ohio Championship. After day one all the golfers were within a few strokes of each other. Keith took a three shot lead into day two over Gary and Howard. Sunday saw Keith play his best golf of the season by shooting an 84 on the day. Keith’s two day total of 176 was good enough to take home the top spot. Gary Andrews’ 188 was second followed by Howard’s 191 and Zavier’s 201. Keith, Howard and Zavier also won one skin each on the weekend. The C flight season long points champion was Gary Andrews. Congratulations Gary on a hard fought season ending trophy.
The D flight saw just two golfers head to the course looking to win a trophy. Steven Root and William Gilstrap both wanted to win that first place trophy. The consistent play by Steven Root was good enough to hold off William for the two day tournament. Steven also won the closest to the pin for the weekend. William didn’t go home empty handed as he was the winner of the season long points total for the D flight.
Alicia and I would just like to thank you guys once again for playing this year. We are heading into the winter months and our golf season has come to an end. Our goal, and I hope yours as well, is to recruit new players to play on the tour next year. Remember, the more players we have the more prizes we get and the more money we can win. Thank you all once again. We look forward to seeing some of you guys in Hilton Head. Let’s go down there and take the team championship this year!
Also remember we are on Facebook.
